Choose the arrangement before the price

A useful rental comparison starts with the journey: where you land, when you can reach the counter, who will drive and where you intend to go. A low daily price can be the wrong offer if the supplier will not accept your card or its shuttle stops before your flight arrives.

Write down your flight, realistic collection time, return time, passengers, luggage and transmission requirement. Then compare offers with those same inputs. An airport name in a search result does not by itself promise a terminal desk, and a photograph does not promise that exact model.

Know who is taking the booking

The comparison platform displays offers and may handle payment or amendments. The rental supplier provides the car and applies the pickup rules. Save both names, the rental conditions and the contact number for the actual collection branch. If a change is agreed by telephone, ask for written confirmation attached to the booking.

Comparison websites such as DiscoverCars show offers from several suppliers for your dates. Cyprus Auto Guide has no commission arrangement or partnership with any of them. Check the final supplier terms even when the platform's headline description looks reassuring.

Airport collection is not one service

Hermes Airports places the listed rental desks in Arrivals after baggage reclaim.

The airport operator's rental page identifies its terminal arrangements. Other offers can involve a shuttle or a representative. Compare the practical consequences: moving luggage, waiting with children, accessibility and getting back to departures. Read the separate Larnaca Airport guide or Paphos Airport guide for a sourced branch example and return checklist.

Give the supplier your flight number, but do not assume this guarantees a late counter opening. Ask what happens after a delay, which number to call and whether an after-hours charge applies. Save the instructions offline before travelling.

For the next step, see Collection checklist.

Compare four different amounts

The booking price, security deposit, damage excess and optional protection charge are different things. The deposit can reduce your available card balance without being the final rental cost. The excess concerns your contractual contribution to covered damage. Excluded damage can follow different rules.

Hertz Cyprus's terms, for example, set different guarantee amounts by vehicle group. That is one supplier's policy, not a national deposit requirement. Before paying, check the card and deposit guide and insurance explanation.

For a meaningful total, include additional drivers, child seats, airport charges, fuel arrangements, one-way fees, age-related charges and any mileage allowance. Ask whether taxes are included. Compare cancellation and no-show deadlines using the actual pickup time, not simply the calendar date.

Choose a car for the luggage as well as the seats

Count large bags and child restraints before choosing a category. Five seat belts do not establish that five adults and their suitcases will fit comfortably. Confirm transmission in the reservation; an automatic rental can reduce unfamiliar controls, but it does not remove the need to adapt to left-side driving.

For mountain roads, unpaved access or a cross-line journey, ask about permitted use before booking. The Green Line guide separates contract permission from insurance. A route suggested by a map app does not establish that the rental agreement permits it.

At collection and return

Inspect the car before moving it. Photograph existing marks, wheels, glass, fuel level and mileage, and have discrepancies recorded on the handover report. Find the lights, wipers, parking brake and assistance number while stationary. If a warning light appears, ask the supplier to resolve it before accepting the car.

Return to the booked branch with the agreed fuel level and time margin. Keep the fuel receipt and obtain a return report where available. For an unattended return, follow the written key-drop procedure and retain time-stamped photographs. Check the final invoice against the contract and keep the documents until any card hold or dispute is resolved.
